Introduction to Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation – Single Subject
This module outlines the role of a sports therapist and the sports medicine team in an athletic setting. It compares and contrasts the epidemiology of injury (types of injuries) in different sports and the methods coaches, athletes and therapists can use to track these injuries. This course also identifies the challenges to managing, treating and applying the individual needs of each athlete to an injury. Important considerations when traveling and working with a sporting team or athlete are highlighted, including immunisation, jet lag and effective record keeping. The importance of effective protective equipment and the equipment available to athletes to prevent injury is emphasised.
Pre participation screening
There is a particular focus in this module on the pre participation screening as a tool to assist in the prevention of injuries in sport and to ensure all players are prepared to take part in athletic activity. This course discusses the Functional Movement Screening (FMS) as a tool to screen athletes prior to taking part in athletic activity.The module will also demonstrate various differing methods of screening athletes and sporting individuals and teaches students methods of designing a pre participation screening specific to a certain sport. Students will also receive practical hands on pre-participation screening practice.

Progression
This is a standalone qualification, however students are required complete academic work and assessment in order to achievethe single subject certificate. As a graduate you will be exempt from the above module on the BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy with Rehabilitation delivered on a full time basis at the Institute.
