TriAthy to host Intervarsity National Championships
The 2014 Intervarsity Championships is set to be held in Athy on Saturday 31st of May. The Championships will be raced over the sprint distance with athletes completing a 750m swim in the river Barrow, followed by a 20km flat and fast bike ride before taking on a 5km run, a portion of which follows the river bank back to the finish.
Last year’s Intervarsity title was claimed by elite development athlete Chris Mintern of University College Cork for the men and Marie Boland of Trinity for the women. Waterford Institute of Technology athlete, Alex Gray took silver for the men while University of Limerick Student Ailbhe Carroll claimed silver in the women’s race.
With a new perpetual trophy up for grabs the returning talent will be hoping to defend their titles while there will no doubt be a new crop of athletes coming though and aiming for a podium finish.
Trinity TC, Queens TC and UCC TC are expected to send sizable teams to the championships while there will no doubt be a host of competitors from various other colleges taking part also.
Competitors of all levels are encouraged to race from those looking for a podium position to those new to the sport, the event is suitable for all.
To be eligible for the Intervarsity race you must be a Student Member of Triathlon Ireland.
